KUALA TERENGGANU - Terengganu Umno chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Said slams Pas Youth chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari's statement asking him to contest in the Kemaman parliament seat if there was a by-election in the area.

Ahmad said the Pasir Mas MP should not interfere with Umno matters in deciding the candidate to be nominated for the by-election.

"It’s not his (Ahmad Fadhli's) right to decide who will contest. He has no right to say such things.

"These (Umno matters) are not part of his party's. We have a process through the grassroot leadership where the leaders will decide who will contest the by-elections," he said when contacted by Sinar here on Tuesday.

When asked whether Ahmad wanted to contest the by-election, the former Terengganu Menteri Besar refused to comment on the matter.

"No comments. The decision is left to the party leadership on who will contest the Kemaman by-election soon,” he said.

The Terengganu Election Court on Tuesday annulled the victory of Kemaman MP Che Alias Hamid, who represented Pas in the 15th general election (GE15).

The decision was made by election judge Datuk Anselm Charles Fernandis after finding elements of bribery involving voters during the parliamentary election campaign period.

Ahmad Fadhli asked Ahmad on the same day to contest for the Kemaman Parliament seat if there was a by-election in the area.

He personally believed that the Umno leader was the most suitable individual to represent BN in competing against Pas and Perikatan Nasional (PN) again.
