BENTONG - After the election campaign for the Pelangai state by-election was revved up with the presence of Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor, the Perikatan Nasional (PN) campaign machinery is expected to heat up with the presence of two former prime ministers.
The two political figures, former Parti Pejuang Negara (Pejuang) chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and PN chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin were expected to attend next week.
This was revealed by Pas deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man during a PN talk at Felda Chemomoi yesterday.
He said Muhyiddin was expected to attend on Oct 3, while Dr Mahathir was scheduled to make an appearance on the eve of polling day.
"Muhyiddin will attend with Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali, Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin and Datuk Seri Mohd Amar Abdullah as well as Datuk Radzi Jidin,” he said.
Tuan Ibrahim added that Pas president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang and the Parti Gerakan Rakyat Malaysia (Gerakan) president Datuk Dominic Lau were also scheduled to attend the campaign.
"These are (former) policymakers, they have been in the government, they know what they are doing," he added.
The Pelangai state by-election was being held following the death of the seat’s incumbent Datuk Seri Johari Harun, 53, who died in the Elmina plane crash in Shah Alam, Selangor on Aug 17.
In the election on Oct 7, PN candidate Kasim Samat will face a three-cornered fight with Bentong Umno committee member Datuk Amizar Abu Adam and independent candidate Haslihelmy DM Zulhasli.
