PUTRAJAYA - Two motorcyclists were confirmed dead in an accident involving 12 vehicles at Kilometre 5.7 of Jalan Persiaran Utara here on Wednesday.
Putrajaya District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner A Asmadi Abdul Aziz, said the incident occurred at around 10:14am in the morning when both victims, along with 11 other vehicles, had stopped to give way to the traffic convoy of the Le Tour de Langkawi (LTdL) at the accident site.
"Initial investigations found that the two deceased victims were local men aged 25 and 39, and their bodies were taken to Hospital Putrajaya for further action.
"The number of other injured victims is still under investigation, and those who are injured have been taken to Hospital Serdang and Hospital Putrajaya for further treatment," he said on Wednesday.
He added that the police also arrested the driver of the truck involved, which ploughed into 11 other vehicles at the accident site.
"One of the escort motorcycles also suffered severe damage, along with six cars, three motorcycles, and two lorries.
"The traffic police personnel involved, however, did not suffer any injuries as they managed to save themselves during the incident," he said.
He elaborated that further investigations are still being conducted to determine the cause of the accident.
"Looking at the incident, the truck actually had time to avoid the accident, and investigations are still ongoing to determine whether there were any factors of negligence or technical issues that resulted in the collision.
"The suspect who was arrested is a local man aged 35, and a check found that the suspect did not have any prior criminal records," he said.
On Wednesday, a truck crashed into 11 vehicles, including a police escort motorcycle, in an accident that resulted in the deaths of two individuals at Kilometre 5.7 of Jalan Persiaran Utara here.
