KOTA BHARU - A teenager nearly lost his finger in an attempted robbery at a grocery store on Jalan Tengku Muhammad Maasum, Kampung Bunut Payong.
The victim, Ahmad Fathul Aslam Nasharudin, 19, recounted the frightening incident.
It happened around 2.30pm when a man walked into the shop and suddenly pulled out a knife.
The man pointed the knife at Ahmad and demanded money.
"At first, I panicked, but then I tried to stay calm.
"I got up from the counter, pretending to get some money. I grabbed the knife and tried to disarm the man.
"Unfortunately, the man pulled the knife away, and it cut my right thumb and index finger," he shared at his home last Friday.
In the chaos, the robber ran out and quickly got on a motorcycle driven by his accomplice waiting outside the store.
As blood splattered on the floor, Ahmad realised he had injured his finger and screamed for help.
Some passer-by outside the grocery store rushed to his aid, and a nearby shop owner called an ambulance.
Fathul was taken to Raja Perempuan Zainab Hospital around 3.30pm and received treatment for three days before being allowed to go home yesterday.
Kota Bharu District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Rosdi Daud confirmed they had received a report about the crime.
"We are still investigating the case, which is being looked into under Section 393 of the Penal Code," he told Sinar.
