Police confirm Chegu Bard arrest

KUALA LUMPUR - The police have detained Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) information committee member Badrul Hisham Shaharin or popularly known as Chegu Bard, due to his reluctance to provide a statement regarding the six reports made against him.

Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department director, Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zin, stated that Chegu Bard, was apprehended on Jalan Raja Laut at 8 pm on Thursday.

"The arrest was made due to his failure to cooperate with six police reports and five investigation papers ," he said during a press conference at the Dang Wangi District Police Headquarters on Thursday.

Mohd Shuhaily explained that Chegu Bard is being investigated in connection with several reports made against him, including comments related to the Malaysia-Indonesia conflict negotiations involving the Ambalat sea block.

"The investigation also involves his disclosures on social media regarding documents from a government department containing classified information," he added.

Mohd Shuhaily mentioned that they had attempted to summon him several times, but he declined to appear.

"We issued a notice under Section 111 of the Criminal Procedure Code, and he received and signed it. However, he was unwilling to go to any police station to record his statement.

"We had no other choice and applied for an arrest warrant; this is the legal process in our country. We had to make the arrest after obtaining the warrant," he said.

Mohd Shuhaily stated that they would complete the recording of Chegu Bard's statement as soon as possible.

"If he cooperates well, there should be no issues with completing the statement tonight. I hope the public will not make any speculations regarding Chegu Bard's arrest," he added.
