KEMAMAN - A man was injured when his friend shot him after he thought it was a monkey in an incident in Kerteh here on Tuesday.
The incident, which happened at about 11am caused the 54-year-old victim to suffer an injury on his left hand after being hit by his friend's sower bullet.
Kemaman District Police Chief, Superintendent Hanyan Ramlan said, at the time of the incident the victim was climbing a mangosteen tree in his garden.
He said the 69-year-old suspect came to the victim's garden with a shotgun, upon seeing the mangosteen tree swaying and thinking there was a group of monkeys, the suspect opened fire.
The victim was then taken to the Kemaman Hospital Emergency Unit to receive treatment.
He explained further that his party had confiscated the shotgun and detained the suspect for further investigation. He said, as a result of the initial investigation, it was found that the suspect did not have any permit or license to own a firearm.
The case will be investigated under Section 8 and 37 of the Firearms Act 1990. - AWANI
