SHAH ALAM - The Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu confirmed receiving a memorandum to Defend the Rights of Fishermen and Farmers for the Food Security of Malaysians at the Parliament grounds on Tuesday.
Mohamad said the memorandum received was from the Lawan Lapar NGO for the purpose of urging the government to stop all land eviction measures in Perak.
He said the NGO had given the letter of application to maintain the Kanthan, Tanah Hitam, and Changkat Kinding areas in Perak as vegetable production areas.
"It was for the purpose of stating the problems faced by farmers regarding their Temporary Occupation Licence, the issue of land sales, and the lack of government support for smallholders.
"I asked my officer to observe it for further actions," he said in a post on X on Tuesday.
It was reported on Tuesday that a group of farmers from Perak and Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) members held a peaceful assembly, walking from Tugu Negara, Kuala Lumpur, to the Parliament to voice their woes.
Modern Farmers Association chairman Chemor Tan Tean Chee said the group came in peace and told the government about the difficulties they faced in submitting the memorandum.
