SEMPORNA - Two children, including a baby, died while three adults were seriously injured in an accident at Kilometer 24 of Jalan Semporna-Tawau on Monday.
A three-year-old boy and a three-month-old baby boy were confirmed dead at the scene.
The incident which took place at 1.50pm involved two Proton Saga vehicles and a Toyota Hilux four-wheel drive, said Semporna District Police Chief Superintendent Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah.
He said the Toyota Hilux was driven by a 44-year-old man from the direction of Tawau to Semporna Town, while the other vehicle came from the opposite direction.
"There was an accident after the Toyota Hilux entered the Proton Saga's lane and the driver of the Proton Saga and an adult passenger were seriously injured while two other children in the vehicle died.
"The driver of the Toyota Hilux was also seriously injured while an adult female passenger and four children were not injured," he said in a statement on Monday night.
He also said that the case was investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 which provides a prison sentence of not less than five years or not more than 10 years and a fine of not less than RM20,000 or not more than RM5,000 if convicted.
