KUALA LUMPUR - The clay pot chicken rice stall in Sri Petaling which had gone viral in social media several days ago, has been confirmed not to have the halal certification from the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim).

Jakim in a Facebook statement said Muslim consumers were advised to be cautious in choosing food premises.

It said consumers must be sure of premises having the official Malaysia Halal Verification Certificate (SPHM) from the Malaysian Halal Certification Authority.

"The social media post which had gone viral displayed the halal status of an eatery in Sri Petaling which used rice wine in their cooking which has caused worries among Muslim consumers who visited the premise," the statement said on Saturday.

"Malaysia Halal Portal checks showed the premise did not hold a legal SPHM and Jakim had never released a halal certification for the premise," it said in the statement.

Jakim stated users could find out further information on the product and food premises with SPHM by visiting the Official Malaysia Halal Portal at https://www.halal.gov.my/v4/.

"The checks can be done through the smartphone application Verify Halal.

"Consumers can follow the explanation regarding the halal issues that were circulating from the viral video through Jakim's Halal Management Division's Facebook," it said.

The clay pot chicken rice store managed by a Muslim husband and wife, who were fluent in the Mandarin dialect had gone viral on social media however it was alleged rice wine alcohol was used while preparing the food.

The premise has been closed temporarily following the matter.
