SHAH ALAM - The Control and Prevention Unit (UKP) of the Malaysian Prison Department's Security and Intelligence Division, based in Sungai Buloh, displayed their special skills today at the Karnival Pendidikan Sinar Bestari, happening in Shah Alam.
This unit is an important team that helps to prevent and handle different situations, especially during prison riots.
They keep a close eye on high-risk inmates and often take care of prisoners when there's a lot of media attention.
Dressed incognito as a prisoner, Ahmad Yusof Aiman, a warden with the Sungai Buloh Prison Prevention Control Unit, shared an intriguing experience from the early days of his career.
He recounted an incident where a prisoner who had been found guilty of a crime adamantly refused to admit their wrongdoing and became increasingly aggressive.
"I closely monitored their actions while immersing myself in the role of a prisoner, responding accordingly.
"Once inside the cell, I worked diligently to calm the agitated inmates who were deeply troubled by their actions but remained unwilling to confess.
"It took approximately 5-10 minutes of careful intervention to stabilise the situation," Ahmad explained during an interview with Sinar Daily.
Ultimately, the prisoner came to regret his actions and was able to accept the reality of the impending punishment they faced.
Ahmad started his career in 2016, and this incident happened in 2018.
The UKP's demonstration at the education carnival shows how important their role is in the Malaysian prison system.
