SHAH ALAM - The School Cadet Corps (KRS) of SMK Abdul Jalil in Hulu Langat, Selangor emerged as the champions of the marching band competition at the Sinar Bestari Education Carnival yesterday.
Their coach, Muhammad Saiful Ashraf Mohd Zailani said that the team's effort and hard work, which started in March bore fruit as they secured a victory in the competition.
"We conducted training in three sessions - morning, afternoon, and night - to strengthen the team.
"We are grateful that the fatigue and time sacrificed so far have yielded a sweet victory," said Muhammad Saiful, who is also a teacher at SMK Abdul Jalil.
He added that the SMK Abdul Jalil KRS team had previously won the Selangor-level marching band competition for both male and female categories last year.
"We have also dominated the male category of the district-level marching band competition for six consecutive years since 2017," he said.
Meanwhile, the SMK Abdul Jalil KRS team leader Abdul Jabbar Nur Abdul Wahab was selected as the Best Platoon Leader of the competition.
The fifth-year vocational stream student said he was somewhat surprised to be chosen.
"To be honest, I did not expect to be chosen as the Best Platoon Leader because the Platoon Leader from the Civil Defence School Cadet (Kaspa) of SMK Sri Andalas was the national-level winner.
"Nevertheless, I am grateful because this achievement is a team effort," he said.
Abdul Jabbar said that all his team members were very enthusiastic about achieving success in this competition.
Meanwhile, in the competition, second place was won by Kaspa SMK Sri Andalas in Klang, and the Police Cadet of SMK Kepong secured third place.
