MUAR - Pas Deputy President Datuk Seri Tuan Man Tuan Ibrahim has expressed regret over the party's decision to help Umno to rise after the latter's defeat in the 14th General Election (GE14).
Speaking at the Perikatan Nasional (PN) Simpang Jeram Grand Finale programme in Muar on yesterday, Tuan Ibrahim said that Pas should have instead left Umno to fend for itself.
"When Umno lost in GE14, it should have been Pas who fought Umno, not helped them.
"When Umno falls, that should be an opportunity for us to push them down right away, isn't that right?" he said.
Tuan Ibrahim said that Pas helped Umno in a number of by-elections after GE14, and that this helped Umno to regain its strength.
However, he said that Umno has now started to cause problems for Pas.
"During the by-election they started to feel strong, we saw that they started to change the Menteri Besar of Johor from Bersatu (Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia) to Umno.
"Then they moved to Melaka and changed the Chief Minister of Melaka from Bersatu to Umno.
"Then move to Perak, make a motion of no confidence in Peja (Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu), change the Perak Menteri Besar from Bersatu to Umno, then they move to attract support for Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin," he said.
Tuan Ibrahim also said that BN now has no future because the people can no longer accept them.
He said that the people are now looking to other parties, such as Pas and PN.
Meanwhile, former Barisan Nasional secretary-general Tan Sri Annuar Musa said that BN is now in a state of disarray and that it is unlikely to recover.
"We can no longer rely on BN, which has been rejected by the people. If the people are not convinced, then what we have is PH (Pakatan Harapan) which was given 22 months (to govern) but failed," he said.
