GEORGETOWN - Eight two-storey shops in Jalan Datuk Keramat here were destroyed in a fire that broke out at 8pm today.
Jalan Perak Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) operation officer, deputy fire chief I A'azelan Hassan revealed that they had received an emergency call at 8.04pm regarding the incident.
Upon arrival at the scene, he found that eight two-storey class A shops near a popular Nasi Kandar eatery had been burnt down.
"When we arrived at the location, the fire was raging in the eight shops which covers an area of 160X30 square feet.
"The estimated current fire is at 90 per cent. Extinguishing operations are still being carried out at the moment," he shared in a statement today.
A'azelan said that the Bagan Jermal, Bayan Baru, Bandar Perda, Paya Terubong, Sungai Bakap fire stations have sent in reinforcements to help with the stituation.
There were no victims reported and the cause of fire is still under investigation.
