SHAH ALAM - Perikatan Nasional (PN) deputy youth chief, Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad has claimed that Umno, a party that had previously opposed the ideology of DAP's struggle, is now determined to support it.

Wan Ahmad Fayhsal explained that Umno's shift in stance aims to encourage Malays to embrace the leadership of Lim Guan Eng within the party.

He criticised Umno's attempt to defend DAP's supposed transformation and urged Malays to accept a party that had once staunchly opposed the 'Malaysian Malaysia' ideology.

"The ridiculous attempt to defend the claim that DAP has changed and the Malays should accept that the party is the leader who was the first to fight and be firm against the ideology of 'Malaysian Malaysia' which is Umno.

"Thank you DAP because you are not a hypocrite like some Umno leaders.

"Never once has this party retreated from the principle and ideology of the struggle," he wrote on his Facebook today.

Previously, media reports featured DAP Secretary-General Anthony Loke Siew Fook insisting that his party would not drop the 'Malaysian Malaysia' slogan despite calls from other parties to do so.

According to Loke, this principle had been mutually agreed upon before the formation of the unity government led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Wan Ahmad Fayhsal further argued that DAP's true mission did not commence with the leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim; instead, it was viewed as an initial investment and long-term strategy to normalise Malays' acceptance of the party.

He stressed that ideologies cannot be imposed but can be influenced by character, considering Malays are known for their gentle nature.

While acknowledging a change in political approach, Wan Ahmad Fayhsal contended that the core of DAP's struggle remains consistent. He highlighted that, in the current political landscape, all Malay parties are in a weakened position within the Malaysia Madani government, except for DAP, which has maintained its strength.

He concluded by cautioning against forgetting history, suggesting that past colonisers initially arrived as traders but ultimately sowed discord, leading to divisions among Malay leadership.
