SHAH ALAM - A total of 960 Indian youths aged 18 and above including those in the M40 group are targeted to participate in the Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) programme.
This is to improve their skills to meet the requirements of employers in various industries.
Human Resources Minister V Sivakumar said the programme organised with the National Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) and the Malaysian Indian Community Transformation Unit (Mitra) offered three packages which were the Safety and Health Officer, Instructor Training, OSH Coordinator and Forklift Safe Handling.
The course will be held for 30 days.
"All packages encompassed other courses that would provide additional value for participants to ensure they are prepared to perform tasks effectively.
"For example, for the OSH Coordinator and Safety and Health Officer programme would have participants joining courses related to confined spaces and the Instructor Training would be exposed to first aid and mental health awareness.
"For OSH Coordinator and Forklift Safe Handling participants, they course will cover on how to work safely especially working with heights,” he said in a statement on Friday.
Sivakumar added all participants will receive a Safety Passport after receiving the Contractor Safety Passport System (All Risks) course.
He said accommodations, food and drinks including allowances would be given to participants.
