TUARAN - A young girl is feared to have drowned, while two others were rescued while bathing in the river estuary of Kampung Serusop here on Wednesday.
The incident occurred around 2 pm.
The victim, Syazawardiah Museh, 12, went missing and is believed to have been swept away by the current.
Meanwhile, two of her friends, Adum Rusdi, 13, along with his sibling Ehsan, 10, were saved and taken to the hospital.
Tuaran Fire and Rescue Department Chief, Mohd Abdul Qawie Abdul Gapar, stated that they received a call regarding the incident at 2.33 pm.
"All three children were reportedly bathing in the river estuary area located in front of a resident's house.
"The incident was noticed by the residents, and the two siblings were rescued while the other was carried away by the current.
The two rescued children were sent to the hospital for further treatment," he said when contacted by Sinar on Wednesday.
He added that village residents then attempted to search for the missing victim but were unsuccessful before informing the fire department.
"Search and rescue (SAR) operations are being conducted using surface water search methods, and we are focusing within a one-kilometer radius of the incident location.
"However, as of now, the victim has not been found, and information will be updated as the situation develops," he added.
