TELUK INTAN - A teenager has been arrested to assist in a murder investigation involving a man whose body was discovered lying in a ditch on Jalan Pasir Kampung Sungai Payung Baroh, Rungkup, near here last week.
Hilir Perak District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Ahmad Adnan Basri said that the 17-year-old boy was apprehended in Hutan Melintang last Saturday.
Initial investigations indicate that the suspect was an acquaintance and neighbour of the victim in a housing estate in Teluk Intan.
"The victim's body has been identified as that of a 21-year-old local citizen," he revealed.
"Following this identification, the suspect was apprehended and later confessed to being involved in the murder," he said in a press release on Monday.
According to the statement, the suspect killed the victim on Aug 20 and subsequently disposed of the body at the location where it was discovered.
The motive behind the incident appears to be jealousy, with reports suggesting that the victim had allegedly harassed the suspect's girlfriend.
"The suspect has been remanded for seven days until Sept 1, pending further investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder," he added.
It was previously reported that the body of a man was found by members of the public in a decomposed state with several wounds on his hands, legs, and neck around 4.48 pm on Aug 23.
