SHAH ALAM - A total of 26 individuals were appointed for the Digital Economy Council and Fourth Industrial Revolution (MED4IRN).
The ceremony would be chaired by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who was the finance minister, with Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli acting as chief secretariat.
The Economy Minister functions as a facilitator for the nation’s digital economy initiative by coordinating cross-ministerial efforts through MED4IRN.
Rafizi said through the MED4IRN work, the government would take a unified approach to developing a digital economy ecosystem that would actively involve the private and public sectors.
He said the council member appointment process was done through an open call with experts and professionals from various sectors submitting nominations.
"The appointment was made as a result of screening thousands of applicants who responded to the Economy Ministry’s invitation for the government committee to be joined by industry activists with expertise on all levels.
"The council will be responsible for formulating policies, sharing expert advice, and guiding implementation on all administrative levels and economic sectors," he said in a statement on Friday.
He explained that the importance of embracing digital transformation cannot be taken lightly.
"Addressing digital transformation is no longer an option; it’s a necessity to ensure economic growth, social well-being, and global competitiveness.
"MED4IRN plays the role of setting the strategic direction and providing the necessary monitoring to make the nation a digital-driven economy," he said.
