SHAH ALAM - Umno stresses that the participation of any member in a non-party coalition is detailed in Article 20.11 of the Umno Constitution.
The article stated that if a contesting member won but chose to leave the party or contest as an independent candidate or through opposing parties in elections, their membership would be automatically forfeited.
Umno Secretary-General Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said the Umno Discipline Board would be given full and impartial authority to investigate, refine, and act on cases related to disciplinary violations.
He said the constitution explains the important principles for each member to uphold the party’s good name and pride.
"It was not only that, but members also can’t perform any action, behaviour, writing, or conversation that could be interpreted as contradicting this principle.
"Umno takes serious note of the disciplinary issues or behaviour that can be considered against the party rules and constitution," he said in a statement on Friday.
The media previously reported that Rembia Assemblyman Muhammad Jailani Khamis attended a Perikatan Nasional (PN) meeting for the Muafakat Nasional (MN) party that was led by former Umno leadership and now Pas member Tan Sri Annuar Musa.
The programme was reported to mark the beginning of the PN campaigns for the Simpang Jeram state election and Pulai by-election on Sept 9.
Asyraf explained that he urged Umno members to remain united and loyal to the institution that was an important mainstay in the unity government in preserving Islam and debating the Malay-Bumiputera agenda as enshrined in the Umno constitution.
