GEORGE TOWN - Police arrest 20 individuals suspected to be involved in the fight between Penang and Kedah supporters outside Bandaraya Stadium here on Tuesday.
Northeast District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Soffian Santong said all individuals who hailed from Penang were remanded for three days until Aug 26.
He said the men aged between 18 and 30 years old would be investigated under Section 148 of the Penal Code for rioting and Section 427 of the Penal Code for treacherous acts.
"A review of the records done found two of the individuals having prior records related to drugs.
"Urine tests found all of them free of drug influence,” he said in a statement here on Thursday.
Soffian said he did not reject the possibility of several more arrests to be made to track down those involved in the incident.
He asked the public with any information on the incident to contact Inspector Lim Zhao Yong at 011-19078888 to aid investigations.
When asked about the seven individuals previously arrested, Soffian stated they were all released on police bail.
The Super League match between Penang and Kedah Darul Aman in the Bandaraya Stadium was tainted after a fight took place between supporters after the match ended on Tuesday.
It took place outside the stadium and was reported to be caused by provocation between both parties before they started shoving each other.
The situation became tense when both groups reacted aggressively by kicking each other, inciting a riot at the nearby car park with the Kedah supporter bus.
Following the incident, police arrested seven men aged 18 to 38 years old and they were remanded for two days to aid investigations.
Other than the arrest of the seven men involved in the riot, police seized two rocks, two road cones and a piece of wood used in the fight.
Soffian said the incident caused the glass on a bus door carrying Kedah supporters to break after it was punched by a suspect.
He said two suspects previously arrested suffered injuries on their heads due to rocks being thrown.
