PUTRAJAYA – Voting day for the by-election of the State Legislative Assembly in Pelangai, Pahang is set for next Oct 7.
The Election Commission (EC) chairman Tan Sri Abdul Ghani Salleh also informed that the nomination date is Sept 23 while Oct 3 is set as the early voting date.
"The Pelangai by-election involves a cost of RM2.1 million and a total of 16,456 voters are involved," he said through a press conference after chairing the Pelangai by-election special meeting, here today.
The Pelangai state seat was declared vacant following the death of its incumbent, Datuk Seri Johari Harun, who was involved in a plane crash on the Guthrie Highway in Bandar Elmina, Shah Alam, on Aug 17.
Johari who is the Local Government, Housing, Environment and Green Technology exco was elected as the Pelangai assemblyman after winning the seat in the 15th General Election last year.
He won a four cornered contest and obtained 7,308 votes with a majority of 4,048 votes, defeating the Perikatan Nasional (PN) candidate, Kasim Samat; Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate, Ahmed Wafiuddin Shamsuri; and the candidate for the Pejuang Tanah Tanah Party (Pejuang), Isa Ahmad.
