MUAR - Perikatan Nasional (PN) is set to announce their selected candidate for the Simpang Jeram by election tomorrow night ( Wendnesday)
The matter was confirmed by Pas Johor Commissioner Abdullah Husin, who stated that the candidate was under 50 years old and a true son of the state, in addition to being trusted by the party to be accepted by voters and win the seat.
"We have put forward a credible candidate who is neither too old nor too young. I'm not going to say his name because it will be officially announced tomorrow night," he told Sinar Tuesday.
He said some leaders are expected to attend the announcement tomorrow night including Pas Vice President Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar who is also the Terengganu Menteri Besar, Pas Secretary General Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan and PN's Election Director, Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor who is also the Kedah Menteri Besar.
"Pas Deputy President Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man Ibrahim also expressed his willingness to attend," he said.
"We believe we have a chance to win. This is bolstered by the 'green wave' and a recent shift in people's support for PN in the state elections," he stated.
In the last Johor State Election, PN was represented by Zarul Salleh who received 6,360 votes, while Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) was represented by the late Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub who received 8,749 votes, winning by a margin of 2,389 votes.
BN candidate, Datuk Lokman Md Don received 6,062 votes.
The Simpang Jeram by-election is being held because the incumbent, Salahuddin Ayub, recently passed away on July 23.
