KUALA TERENGGANU - The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in Terengganu has detained a senior administrative assistant in a Terengganu government department, along with his wife, on suspicion of abuse of power.
The civil servant is believed to have awarded around 70 vehicle repair contracts worth an estimated RM130,000 to a company connected to him.
According to sources, the suspect allegedly awarded these contracts to his wife's company in addition to recommending vehicle repair work for the department to a workshop owned by a cooperative. He is a cooperative board member and the Trade Committee Secretary of the cooperative.
Reportedly, this case occurred between 2021 and 2022.
It is understood that both suspects, both in their late 50s, were detained while giving statements at the MACC Terengganu office around 11 a.m. this morning.
The suspects are expected to be brought to the Kuala Terengganu Magistrate's Court tomorrow for remand proceedings.
Meanwhile, the Director of MACC Terengganu, Hazrul Shazreen Abd Yazid, confirmed the arrests and stated that the case is being investigated under Section 23 (1) of the MACC Act 2009.
