GOMBAK - A total of 62 police officers and personnel have been dismissed from the force since January to July this year for drug abuse and other offences, said Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay.
Ayob said that the dismissals were part of 741 punishments given to police officers and members in the same period.
"The most common punishment was a warning, with 443 officers and members receiving this. Others were fined (130), had their emolument rights forfeited (79), had their salaries postponed (15), had their salaries reduced (7), or were demoted (5)," he said at the Raudhatul Sakinah Cemetery in Gombak today.
Ayob said that the police would not tolerate any of its officers or members who commit criminal, drug, misconduct, or disciplinary offences.
He earlier commented on a raid by the Bukit Aman Integrity and Standards Compliance Department (JIPS) at an entertainment outlet in Seremban early Saturday morning.
In the raid, an inspector and 14 police officers and members serving at several district police headquarters in Negeri Sembilan and the state contingent police headquarters were detained.
Two deputy prosecutors were also detained.
It was reported that 14 of the 15 police officers, members involved, and the two deputy prosecutors tested positive for drugs.
