LABUAN – An enforcement officer and a personnel were arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), here, after being suspected of accepting bribes of approximately RM4,000.
According to a source, both of them took the bribes as an inducement to not take action against a suspect in a narcotics case.
They were arrested at the Labuan MACC office when they appeared to give their statements at about 3pm, today.
The suspects who worked at a narcotics branch were believed to have received the bribes amounting to RM3,000 through a cash deposit machine while the remaining amount was transferred via online banking through several transactions.
The transactions were believed to have taken place between September 2022 and March 2023.
Meanwhile, Labuan MACC director Datuk Robbyie Shym Datu Pindatun when contacted confirmed the arrest.
"The case is being investigated under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009.
"Both suspects are expected to be brought to the Labuan magistrate's court tomorrow (Sunday) for remand application,” he said.
