Selangor police use drones for crime prevention, combat drug activities - CPO

SHAH ALAM – The Selangor police will receive two new drones to enhance crime prevention in the state.

Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said the highly advanced drones would be able to cover bigger area in minimum time.

"When we fly the drones, the camera can cover bigger area as compared to patrolling physically so our team on the ground can go directly to problematic areas if any issues are spotted by the drone team,” he said in an interview with Sinar Daily.

Hussein said at the moment, the state police already had one drone, equipped with thermal detector and night vision, which was sponsored by private company – Puncak Niaga.

He said that the federal police in Bukit Aman had drones under its Air Wing drone units procured by the government, but it was for use of the whole country.

"But now we have (our own) in Selangor, and we will have another unit as well to be a pilot project for crime prevention and would be handled by the Crime Investigation Department (CID),” he said.

Hussein also spoke about the use of technology in the fight against drug trafficking.

He said that the drones could be used to patrol hot spots for drug trafficking and identify suspicious activity.
