SHAH ALAM - Selangor DAP will not be seeking the position of the state's Menteri Besar despite winning all 15 State Legislative Assembly seats contested in the polls held last Saturday.
Its deputy chairman, Ng Suee Lim, stated that there's no reason for DAP to vie for the Selangor Menteri Besar position as it belongs to the PKR, a component party of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition, which has already been agreed upon.
"Indeed, from the beginning, we (PH) have never had disputes or anything of the sort (regarding the Menteri Besar position).
"DAP is a loyal companion within PH that has been tested all this time and proven never to stab anyone in the back and become traitors," he said when contacted by Sinar today.
Ng, who is also a Sekinchan assemblyman, stated that DAP leaders have never made any statements to offend their allies within PH.
"I want to clarify that no DAP leader has made such a statement, and this is being done by irresponsible parties as if they want to portray us as power-hungry," he explained.
In light of this, Ng mentioned that attempts to link DAP to the Selangor Menteri Besar position are deemed irresponsible and an attempt to disrupt the PH coalition.
"This is a statement that seeks to cause chaos and breed suspicion and provocation.
"I strongly condemn such statements that are baseless," he said.
Meanwhile, PKR's Rodziah Ismail stated that the Menteri Besar position belongs to PKR through consensus.
"The quota for Selangor Menteri Besar still belongs to PKR, and we have no issues as it's an understanding that has been reached by all PH parties," she said.
Previously, there were rumours from certain quarters suggesting that the Selangor Menteri Besar position should be given to DAP due to the party's victory in all 15 contested State Legislative Assembly seats in the Selangor State Elections.
The suggestion pointed out that DAP has a Muslim candidate, Jamaliah Jamaluddin, who has served two terms as the Bandar Utama Assemblywoman.
