SHAH ALAM - PKR central leadership council (MPP) has called on all parties to avoid speculating about the appointment of the Selangor Menteri Besar.
Committee Member Hee Loy Sian, also a former exco member, is confident that Selangor Pakatan Harapan (PH) Chairman Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari will be reappointed for a new term.
"As for the Selangor Menteri Besar candidate, it's only speculation. Don't believe it ; I'm sure Amirudin will be reappointed as the Selangor Menteri Besar," he told Sinar Harian on Wednesday.
Another MPP member, Mohd Yahya Mat Sahri, said Amirudin is the PKR Vice President and is the most senior.
He mentioned that Amirudin's excellent administrative and managerial performance as the former Menteri Besar was an advantage compared to other states.
"There are indeed weaknesses in the decline in voter support in the state elections, but this does not signify Amirudin's failure," he said.
He added that the lack of harmony among PH and BN supporters at the state level causes this issue nationally.
The Selangor Youth Wing Legal Bureau of Justice (AMK) Chief Khairul Naim Rafidi said Amirudin should be retained as the Selangor Chief Minister.
"Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari should be retained based on the performance demonstrated by the Selangor state government thus far," he said.
Earlier, media reports suggested that Amirudin would not be appointed as the Selangor Menteri Besar for a second term after PH failed to obtain a two-thirds majority in the recent state polls.
This comes after a PKR leader, who wished to remain anonymous, was reported as saying that despite Amirudin successfully retaining the Sungai Tua state constituency and performing well as the Menteri Besar, he failed to garner Malay votes.
PH won 32 seats in the recent Selangor state elections, the Perikatan Nasional obtained 22, and BN - a PH ally in the federal government - only won two.
