ALOR SETAR - Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor admits popularity and controversies related to himself was a large contributor for Perikatan Nasional's (PN) victory.
He said both elements were contributed by young voters and the new generation on social media who followed his political developments.
He said both factors were believed to have brought him the votes of the youth including first time voters in addition to candidate factor, PN wave and what the public wanted.
"I think its true on what was said. I think it (was contributed) by youth voters and the older individuals.
"Many have their TikTok accounts, even my father and mother watched TikTok content.
"Its easy to view on TikTok, if you don’t like the content, just scroll through, how many per cent (contributions) is unknown to me,” he said in a press conference at Wisma Darul Aman after he was sworn in as Kedah Menteri Besar at the Anak Bukit Palace on Monday.
The Kedah PN chairman said PN’s victory in Kedah was contributed by the support of the public who understood the direction of the state administration as well as the performance shown throughout the administration.
"The public understands what we bring and they could accept it.
"When individuals understand it they will follow,” he said.
Sanusi said it was the referendum by the public towards the PN led state.
"I’ve observed the PN areas that were not victorious was areas that voters chose for the sake of race meaning it was not for the party.
"This matter must be refined, of course parties would be established based on race, however, when voting please look at the capabilities and not merely for racial sentiments.
"Many other factors must be considered,” he explained.
Sanusi said the opposition party also made their evaluations in choosing the area contested to avoid losing badly.
"DAP didn’t even contest in areas they couldn’t win in. They didn’t place DAP candidates in Malay majority areas,” he said.
Sanusi said the factors for the victory was due to several factors whether directly or indirectly.
"That we have to ask voters, I don’t know,” he said when asked whether his aura was the contributing factor for winning.
