BN's loss gives room for self-reflection - Rozi

KUALA TERENGGANU - BN's loss in defending the party's stronghold in the Telemung state seat that they held for 60 years should be observed and evaluated.

The incumbent of the seat Datuk Rozi Mamat said even though the seat was lost by a slight majority, the loss opened the doors towards a new age for the party.

"Even though this decision did not side with us, it gives us an opportunity to reflect and view what has happened as a lesson,” he said in a Facebook post on Sunday.

In the same post the former Telemung assemblyman apologised and recorded his appreciation for all those involved in the campaign period that took place for the last two weeks.

"Thank you to to all voters, machineries and N21 Telemung supporters who worked hard during the campaign period and voted for BN

"I want to take this opportunity to apologise if there were any wrongdoings throughout my four terms in service.

"Everything that’s good is from Allah SWT and everything bad stemmed from my own weaknesses and shortcomings,” he wrote.

Rozi recorded a congratulatory speech for the winners who contested and hoped they would perform their tasks and responsibilities with trust and fairness.

The Terengganu elections on Aug 12, recorded history when for the first time the Telemung state seat was won by Pas candidate Zawawi Ismail who received 8,380 votes defeating Rozi (8,085 votes).

Pas at the same time swept all 32 Terengganu state seats with not a single representative from the Pakatan Harapan (PH) and BN coalition voted in as assemblymen.

In the14th general election (GE15) the Telemung state seat won by Rozi with a majority of 4,159 votes defeating Pas candidate Kamaruzaman Abdullah and PKR candidate Sharifah Norhayati Syed Omar.
