SHAH ALAM - In Negeri Sembilan, the Pakatan Harapan (PH) - Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition has shown positive results, offering a source of hope for future progress, says Subang MP.
Subang MP Wong Chen said while the overall result was a tie at 3-3 but the state election result was challenging for PH-BN.
"The opposition Perikatan Nasional (PN) has made gains in Selangor and Penang.
"However, interestingly in Negeri Sembilan, the PH-BN coalition achieved a better performance. This is our main source of hope going forward.
"While PH-BN needs a detailed review of what went wrong in other states, I would stress that the more important move is to study and adopt the PH-BN model in Negeri Sembilan,” he said.
Wong raised questioned over how Negeri Sembilan team swiftly created the unity coalition in just eight months, leading to an effective election campaign.
"PN,the four-year-old coalition was stopped cold by the eight-month-old PH-BN coalition there,” he said. Therefore, he said the formula for future PH-BN victory is in Negeri Sembilan.
Meanwhile, he also said the state election was a wake-up call for the government, calling for committing to reforms and avoiding stabilising the coalition.
"As such, going forward the prime minister needs to organise the coalition parties on what fundamental reforms are agreeable by all and then vigorously set an agenda to deliver them.
"In particular, for the sake of democracy and fighting corruption, we need the Parliamentary Services Act and Political Financing Act to be passed in Parliament as soon as possible,” he said.
