KUALA LUMPUR - The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) received 216 reports from victims of syariah-compliant investment scams nationwide involving losses of over RM11 million from January until Aug 11.
Bukit Aman Commercial Crime Investigation Department director Datuk Seri Ramli Mohamed Yoosuf said efforts to track down and arrest members of the fraud syndicate were underway, and an investigation paper had been opened under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating.
"PDRM would like to remind the public not to be deceived by investment promotions that use pictures of famous personalities and promise exaggerated profits,” he said in a statement today.
He also reminded the public to seek advice and information from official sources such as Bank Negara, the Semak Mule portal and the Securities Commission before participating in any investment schemes. - BERNAMA
