GEORGETOWN - Gerakan President, Datuk Dominic Lau Hoe Chai, has once again failed in his attempt to establish a multicultural party.
His electoral defeat came at the hands of his rival from the Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition, Azrul Mahathir, who secured a substantial majority of 15,000 votes.
The announcement of Azrul's victory was made by Penang's caretaker Chief Minister, Chow Kon Yeow, at the St Giles Wembley Hotel in Penang.
Perikatan Nasional (PN) had harbored hopes of winning the Bayan Lepas seat, banking on the assumption that the Gerakan President would secure a substantial majority of votes.
Despite grappling with internal party challenges, Lau managed to amass over 10,000 votes, leading to a closely contested battle with his opponent.
