ALOR SETAR - The Kedah state government will announce a public holiday on Sunday if Perikatan Nasional (PN) successfully forms a government on Saturday.
It was announced by Kedah Caretaker Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor through a press release at 10.30pm on Friday.
The statement said Kedahans would be given a public holiday after the voting day finishes on Saturday and PN was given the mandate to lead Kedah.
The 14-day campaigning period for the state elections started with the candidate nomination day on July 29, ending at 11.59pm today.
It meant after the duration, all activities garnering votes were not allowed, especially on the voting day on Saturday in 36 Kedah state seats.
Before it was dissolved, the Kedah state assembly composition witnessed PN with 21 state seats and 15 held by Pas and Bersatu with six state seats.
Pakatan Harapan (PH) had 11 state seats through PKR (five), Amanah (four) as well as DAP (two).
BN had two seats which were now combined with PH to form the unity government.
Parti Pejuang Tanah Air (Pejuang) had two state seats, but the party would not join the elections.
There were 1,585,085 registered voters for the Kedah state elections with 104,284 voters aged between 18 and 20 years old.
