GEORGETOWN - If you believe in women empowerment, don’t choose a party who has no record in supporting women leaders.
Speaking at the Ceramah Mega Perpaduan here, Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh slammed the former women minister Datuk Seri Rina Harun for her failure in understanding the urgency in difficult times during her tenure.
"Back in 2019, Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng allocated RM10 million for childcare center for frontliners since there was a lack of childcare services for our frontliners.
"Therefore, myself and the former PKR president at the time Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail looked into establishing as many as 60 childcare centres with the allocations given.
"Lim Guan Eng then decided to allocate RM30 million in 2020 for childcare centres but then the Sheraton move happened in February 2020, and I entered parliament as a opposition MP during Covid-19 and I saw how doctors and nurses suffered with shift work with less childcare centres,” she said.
The Segambut MP further questioned Rina Harun on where did RM30 million allocations were channeled to, however her questions were ignored multiple times.
"We questioned Rina Harun, however our questioned has been ignored many times and towards the end of the year she said that they only allocated RM5.5 million for childcare.
"When asked why she said that nobody wanted to build the childcare centres, so they did a lazy job and took a shortcut where they distributed the money to kindergartens as a grant instead of using that money for frontliners.
"If a policy maker like Rina Harun has failed to understand this issue, I am saying don’t believe on what PN promises today,” she said.
Therefore, she urged to voters to cast their votes for PH which has a steady track record in women empowerment.
