KUCHING - The country’s small and medium enterprises (SMEs) community would be able to generate more revenue and expand their business opportunities through the Ohsem Digital Advertising Fund.
According to Anas Popcorn founder Kawi Li, which is a Sarawak-based product, the initiative launched by the government would help SMEs involved to venture into the digital economy by collaborating with local premium content platforms.
"For every month, Anas Popcorn will spend around RM3,000 or more for marketing and advertising using platforms such as social media, radio and even banner or bunting.
"Therefore, this the right time for the government to announce such an initiative that can benefit both SMEs and local content platforms, especially for SMEs that have the potential to go further in the industry,” he told Bernama, today.
He noted that advertising through various platforms play a vital role in promoting SME products, specifically after the episode of the Covid-19 pandemic which has ‘forced’ the community to invest in digital economy.
Kawi said advertising on local platforms would also ensure the sustainability of the local market as SMEs often restrict their advertising to social media due to its low-entry cost.
Yesterday, Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil launched the Ohsem Digital Advertising Fund of RM21 million that would encourage SME entrepreneurs to tap into advertisements worth RM8,000 for only RM1,000 on premium content platforms, such as the New Straits Times, SAYS, Berita Harian, Harian Metro and more.
Fahmi said the initiative was expected to have an impact on the three corners of the economy, namely SMEs, local content platforms and the country’s economy.
The Ohsem Digital Advertising Fund is a collaboration between Dattel Asia Group (DTL), REV Media Group (REV) and Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (Mdec). - BERNAMA
