SHAH ALAM - As Selangor's residents, grappled with the Covid 19 pandemic, the Perikatan Nasional government had failed to navigate the crisis.
According to Caretaker Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari the experience was particularly poignant for Malaysians, notably Selangor residents, who faced formidable health challenges while the management of Perikatan Nasional faltered.
"In those moments, we faced a semblance of a 'nation at war,' albeit against an unseen adversary, sparking the daunting 'Cognitive Challenge of War.'
"This unique form of warfare reverberated profoundly across society, soliciting our cognitive faculties to comprehend direct and indirect repercussions, immediate urgencies, and enduring consequences," said Amirudin in his special address to Selangorians today.
However, he said he endeavored to look ahead and implemented forward-looking policies to ensure the well-being of Selangorians
While most Malaysians now seek respite from the heart-rending episode, acknowledging the trauma it caused, the official records stand as witness to 37,165 lives succumbing to the pandemic's grasp, he added.
"I must summon the audacity to dissect this traumatic chapter, extracting every example and lesson from it, to ensure our readiness to overcome future challenges.
"Foremost among the lessons learned was the indomitable resilience exhibited by Selangor's populace throughout the health turmoil, a trait likened to a ship with billowing sails, deftly departing from tumultuous harbors."
Furthermore, he mentioned that this resilience was vividly evident when, following the massive floods of December 2021 that left over 130,000 families afflicted, Selangor's residents rallied to reconstruct their lives with astonishing vigor.
Despite enduring a larger flood-induced impact than other regions due to its dense population, Selangor emerged from adversity more swiftly than its counterparts.
The dignity, values, principles, and moral rectitude that underscore the people of Selangor make them the bedrock of Selangor Darul Ehsan's triumphs.
