KUALA NERUS - A man was found dead in a taxi suspected to be his own, near Seberang Takir Health Clinic last night.

Kuala Terengganu District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Abdul Rahim Md Din said received a distress call regarding the incident around 10:56 pm. Subsequently, a team of officers was swiftly dispatched to the scene.

He said a local man, aged 51, was found unconscious in the rear passenger seat of the vehicle.

Further investigation, he said, revealed several indications of injuries on the victim's body and his death was confirmed by health officials at the scene.

"As a result of the examination inside the vehicle, the police found a knife on the floor mat near the driver's seat.

"We have apprehended a 29-year-old man to assist in the investigation of the incident," he said when approached by reporters at the scene.

Abdul Rahim said a more extensive inquiry is presently underway to ascertain the motive of the incident.

The case, examined under Section 302 of the Penal Code, remains open for investigation.

"The victim's body was taken to the Forensic Unit of Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital for further action," he said.
