SHAH ALAM - Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz has urged Umno members in the six states facing elections to set aside their differences and ensure that BN candidates win on Aug 12.
The Padang Rengas Umno division chief said that it is important for Umno to win the state elections, regardless of any dissatisfaction that members may have with the party.
"This coming Aug 12 is the state elections, not the party elections.
"Why sabotage our own party? Why would you be influenced by party provocations that want to destroy Umno?" he questioned.
Nazri also reminded Umno members that there are leaders in Perikatan Nasional (PN) who attempted to ban Umno.
"Muhyiddin (Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin) and Dr Mahathir (Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad) had once wanted to ban Umno when they were forming the government with PH.
"The ones stopping the efforts of banning Umno was Anwar Ibrahim (Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim) because to him Umno has its history in the nation, race and religion," he added.
Nazri said that Umno members should not support PN, as the party's leaders have a history of trying to destroy Umno.
He also said that Umno should cooperate with PH, as this is the best way to maintain stability in the nation.
