KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim says he believes the move by the former Penang Deputy Chief Minister II to quit DAP is related to internal party issues, adding that he understood P Ramasamy's decision, whom he regards as his friend.
"Ramasamy is my friend and I'm sure he has gotten and considered some views first (before making the decision). I understand.
"But I hope he can play a positive role in assisting the government in continuing the moderate approach," he said after delivering his opening remarks at today's Asia-Pacific Roundtable, here.
Earlier today, Ramasamy announced his resignation from all positions within DAP and his departure from the party.
Having been dropped as a candidate for the Penang state polls, he has sent letters to DAP Secretary-General Anthony Loke Siew Fook and Penang DAP Chairman Chow Kon Yeow over his resignation. - AWANI
