JOHOR BAHRU - Police are investigating the death of a 29-year-old woman believed to be caused by a treatment at a beauty centre in Mutiara Rini, Skudai.
Iskandar Puteri district police chief Assistant Commissioner Rahmat Ariffin said that the probe came about after the victim's husband made a report about the misfortune at 12.31pm on Aug 2.
"A report was made by a local man claiming that his wife had died as a result of having a beauty treatment at a beauty centre in Mutiara Rini.
"After the treatment, the victim continued to suffer from pain and sought further treatment at a private hospital. The victim was confirmed dead at a hospital at approximately 7.08am, Aug 2," he said in a statement on Tuesday.
According to Rahmat, further investigations are underway and the public is asked not to speculate the case.
Prior to that, the death of the mother-of-two after experiencing complications allegedly caused by a hyaluronic acid breast enlargement procedure had gone viral on social media.
Meanwhile, State Health and Unity Exco Ling Tian Soon said that so far, Johor State Health Department (JKNJ) had not yet received an official complaint regarding the case.
Therefore, the victim's family members were asked to submit a complaint to JKNJ so that an investigation can be carried out in accordance with the Private Healthcare Facilities and Services Act 1998.
"The public needs to ensure that a beauty centre has a certificate and is registered with the Malaysian Health Ministry before receiving any treatments," he wrote on Facebook on Tuesday.
Tian Soon visited the family of the victim who left behind two children aged nine and 12.
The family had planned a holiday with friends and family at the end of this year.
