SHAH ALAM - Alliance for Safe Community (Ikatan) has donated RM5,000 to Sufi Syafrina Fund through the Sinar Karangkraf programme in collaboration with the community.
Its Chairman Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye stated that the contribution served as a gesture of support to alleviate the burden of the six-month-old baby who suffered from a rare genetic disease called Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) Type 1.
"This is our corporate social responsibility (CSR) that focuses on matters related to safety and health, as well as charitable work for those in need.
"The amount of the contribution is the result of a collective agreement among members.
"We hope that the public, especially the corporate sector, will also come forward to aid this baby," he said after presenting the contribution check at the Karangkraf Complex today.
On July 23, Sinar Harian reported the story of Sufi Syafrina Mohd Shafiq in Kampung Sungai Kantan, Kajang, near here, who required over RM9 million for treatment involving the Zolgensma injection.
Her father, Mohd Shafiq, 38, hoped that the youngest of his three siblings could receive the injection as soon as possible before turning two years old, to fully recover.
Sinar Karangkraf Group Chief Marketing and Branding Officer Nik Justin Nik Mohd Ariffin stated that Lee was the second figure to extend a contribution to the fund, following Berjaya Corporation Berhad (Berjaya) Founder and Executive Chairman Tan Sri Vincent Tan yesterday.
"I am very grateful to both of these figures for being among the earliest to help.
"This fund will remain open until it reaches its maximum amount, and we hope that the contributions received can help alleviate the burden on Sufi Syafrina's family," he said.
He also announced that Sinar Harian would initiate a collaboration with Ikatan to carry out CSR through community programmes.
Members of the public who wish to contribute can do so through the Sinar Karangkraf Maybank account: 564276529068 - Tabung Bantuan Sufi Syafrina.
