SHAH ALAM - Former Terengganu menteri besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman says Perikatan Nasional in the state was "running low"on ideas, causing them to go low with personal attacks during campaigning.
He said voters are aware off such tactics as they head for polls on Saturday.
"Personal attacks do not lead us anywhere.
"Therefore, I believe it is more constructive for us to focus on strategic plans for development in our region. That approach is far more beneficial than engaging in these kinds of attack campaigns," he told Sinar.
He was asked if the opposing side were using personal attacks as they may have run out of ideas.
Razif, the candidate for Seberang Takir added that he was confident that they will not be swayed by these intentionally raised issues from the opposing side.
"From the start, I have never been fond of such campaigns. The landscape of our country's politics has shifted, and in my opinion, all parties should adopt a mature approach," he added.
His opponent in Seberang Takir is Bersatu's Khazan Che Mat.
However Ahmad Razif said he does not take the competition lightly even though Khazan is not from the area.
"I am still preparing and strategising diligently because what's most crucial is for me to remain here alongside the BN-Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition, ensuring Terengganu's alignment with the central government.
"If there's no alignment (between state and central government administration), it could lead to a situation similar to what happened in 1999, where it brought significant losses to Terengganu," he said.
Even now, Razif said the debts or funds spent by the federal government were not fully paid.
"Given what occurred in 1999 and the substantial funds that the state government is yet to receive, I see this as a substantial loss for the people of Terengganu.
"Moreover, we can't guarantee (if Pas takes control again after this state election) how long these aid funds or royalties can be sustained because I've been informed that the petroleum resources in Terengganu will only last another 15 years," he added.
