SHAH ALAM - Tumpat MP, Datuk Mumtaz Md Nawi says that it is unfair to compare the economy of the east and west coast as both areas have different circumstances.
This was in response to Pakatan Harapan's (PH) Air Putih candidate Lim Guan Eng's statement slamming the Kelantan, Terengganu, and Kedah governments for their poor water management and lack of economic performance.
"The statement is not worth commenting on as he is from the west coast while we are here on the east coast.
"The resources we have are different, and our playing field is not the same, so we cannot compare. Even in football, there are different categories," she told Sinar Daily.
She further noted when discussing economic performance, it is only fair to make judgments if each state receives the same amount of resources.
In a related matter, Mumtaz explained that comments should only be made when both parties understand or are in a similar situation.
"It will be unfair for me to speak on the racial harmony on the west coast as the demography is not the same as in Kelantan.
"In Kelantan there are many Malay Muslims while on the west coast, Malays are not the majority," she stressed.
The Tumpat MP stated that the statement made by Lim is not worthwhile to be focused on.
"At the end of the day, Lim Guan Eng won't even read on what I said. So what's the point?" she questioned.
