SHAH ALAM – Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate for the Lenggeng State Assembly Mohd Asna Amin is confident that there will be no issue of protest among Amanah members against him following the seat given to Umno in the state election.
He said the issue has been resolved at the party leadership level and their main focus is to ensure that victory in the seat can be defended.
"I have also met with almost all the state Amanah leaders and they agreed to join forces to ensure BN's victory.
"At the moment I have not heard about the protest issue and I hope it doesn't happen," he said during a campaig in Kampung Daching, Lenggeng.
He also described the Lenggeng state seat as Umno's honour because it has been trusted by Amanah to defend the seat.
The Seremban division Umno vice-chairman said that the campaign had gone smoothly and had received positive feedbacks from the voters.
"The largest number of voters in Lenggeng is in the Panchor division, where there are more than 13,000 voters which used to be Umno's 'dark' area, but now it is 'white' because we (BN) have joined (with Pakatan Harapan) and this site ( Lenggeng village) is indeed an Umno stronghold.
"BN needs to win in Lenggeng because it is a seat of honour for Umno and BN. We asked for this seat from PH and have been assured that we can win this seat," he said.
In the meantime, he said, Lenggeng has the potential to be used as an educational and agricultural hub.
He added that he was determined to bring those two things if given the opportunity by the voters to become a representative of the people in the area.
In the 14th General Election, the Lenggeng State Assembly was won by PH through Amanah candidate, Suhaimi Kassim with a majority of 986 votes defeating two other candidates including BN candidate, Mazalan Ma'arop.
However, in this election, the seat involved was given to BN after being approved by the Presidential Council of the Unity Government.
The decision initially caused dissatisfaction among a number of Amanah members because the party lost one of the three seats they were supposed to contest in the state polls.
Mohd Asna faces a three-cornered clash with PN candidate Mohd Fadli Che Me and independent candidate Zul Azki Mat Sulop.
