KUALA TERENGGANU - The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry will investigate the online sale of the Si Hulk brand of health drinks that can allegedly cure various diseases.

Its deputy minister, Fuziah Salleh said the probe will be carried out under the Trade Descriptions Act 2011 to curb any form of illegal and uncertified advertising of health products.

As such, he urged those with information on the Si Hulk product to report the matter to the KPDN for investigation and action to be taken.

"So far, we have not received any complaints related to this drink product, but I will ask that an investigation be carried out to crack down on the sale of health products that do not comply with stipulated regulations,” she said after the launch of the Rahmah Sale Tour programme in Kuala Ibai here today.

Fuziah said companies that want to market their products and promote the health benefits of their products must provide scientific evidence or research approved by the Ministry of Health (MOH).

"When you want to market a product, you must register your company and if the product makes any claims or promises, there must be scientific research of MOH approval,” she said.

In July, the media reported that business activities involving the drinking water factory run by the deviant group Si Hulk in Johor Bahru had been closed following the revocation of the halal certificate and failure to comply with the standards set by the Johor Islamic Religious Department (JAINJ).

The drink, which is found to have exploited religious elements to attract buyers, is still widely sold online on various platforms, including Shopee. - BERNAMA
