SHAH ALAM - Caretaker Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari will be initiating a legal action against caretaker Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor over the latter’s speech during a Perikatan Nasional event at Jitra, Kedah, last night.
In a statement, Amirudin said the speech seemed like Sanusi’s desperate attempt to shift the public’s focus from his alleged involvement in the rare earth elements (REE) mining scandal in Kedah.
"I strongly deny all the accusations and allegations (made by Sanusi).
"In fact, I have extensively addressed the matter during the state assembly sitting last year and earlier this year, as well in a parliamentary session on March 1.
"I have discussed it with my lawyers and decided to initiate a legal action against Sanusi next week over these defamatory statements,” he said.
Based on a report by Pas mouthpiece Harakah Daily, Sanusi has accused Amirudin of being involved in a scandal with Berjaya Group founder Tan Sri Vincent Tan Chee Yioun over the river-cleaning project which he claimed was worth RM10 billion in exchange for 600 acres of land in Selangor.
In the speech at Dataran Darul Aman, Sanusi also claimed that the project involved a company owned by the Selangor Menteri Besar (Incorporation) for the Klang River project which will cost the Selangor state government around RM180 million.
