KUALA LUMPUR - PDRM FC pulled off a shocking move by terminating the contract of head coach Azzmi Aziz by mutual consent just hours before their opening Malaysia Cup match against Selangor today (9 pm).
PDRM said that Azzmi was officially relieved of his duty on June 19, with assistant head coach Eddy Gapil@Edwin taking charge temporarily.
"PDRM FC would like to thank Azzmi Aziz and wish him good luck in his future endeavours,” PDRM said in a statement.
Previously, loyal fans of The Cops questioned the decision to relieve Azzmi of his duties although the 47-year-old coach had guided them to achieve encouraging results.
Azzmi had guided PDRM to the eighth spot in the Super League standings with 19 points from six victories and one draw in 14 matches.
Some of the surprising results PDRM achieved under Azzmi were the 1-0 win over Kedah Darul Aman FC in Alor Setar in March as well as last month’s identical 1-0 wins over Selangor FC and Sabah FC on home ground.
PDRM will play Selangor in the Malaysia Cup round-of-16 first-leg match at the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) Stadium tonight. - BERNAMA
