GUA MUSANG - A fisherman was trampled to death by a wild elephant in an incident in an oil palm plantation area, Tanah Tinggi Lojing, here on Wednesday.
The victim, security guard Mohd Marzuki Mohd Nawi, 42, reportedly died at 4.45pm.
Gua Musang District Police Chief Superintendent Sik Choon Foo said that, at about 4pm, the victim and a friend rode a motorcycle towards the river to fish and came across two elephants.
"They tried to run away but fell off the motorcycle due to shock—the victim's friend who was riding pillion managed to escape.
"After the elephant left the scene, the victim's friend returned to the location and found the victim in the bush complaining of pain," he said in a statement on Thursday.
Sik said the victim was then taken to Klinik Kesihatan Pos Brooke for treatment but was confirmed dead.
"The medical officer from the clinic confirmed that the victim died, and an examination of his body found bruises and wounds on the left side of his waist, which were believed to be the result of being trampled by an elephant.
"The body was taken to Gua Musang Hospital for an autopsy, and the post-mortem results were consistent with the testimony of the victim's friend," he added.
