BUTTERWORTH - A religious preacher from Pas has allegedly warned voters against attending 'kenduri' organised by Umno, saying that they would be condemned to hell.
The preacher, who was not named, allegedly made the remarks recently during a ceramah.
The remarks were revealed by Sungai Dua Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate Shaik Hussein Mydin in a speech yesterday at the Pakatan Harapan (PH) and BN Manifesto launch.
Shaik said that he was shocked to hear the preacher's warning, and that he had informed the villagers that they would host a bigger kenduri next time around.
"I was shocked to hear this. I told the villagers that it is fine, next time, we will organise a bigger kenduri,” the Sungai Dua candidate told a crowd at the Butterworth Arena.
Shaik, who is the Penang BN deputy chairman, expressed his utmost disappointment after hearing the preacher's allegation.
Shaik's comments come as the state election campaign is heating up.
The PH-BN coalition is facing a challenge from Perikatan Nasional (PN), which is led by former prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
